New biopharm film series
Did you know that 90% of product contact surfaces in a typical pharmaceutical system come from tubes and fittings? Or that there are usually three welds per meter – this is where you are most vulnerable. These eye-openers and much more are highlighted in this new short film on Alfa Laval’s biopharm portal – www.alfalaval.com/biopharm
Looking at the total cost of ownership
This might come as a surprise, but tubes and fittings could be the most critical component in a biotech or pharmaceutical system, and can have a significant impact on process economy. Low-quality tubes and fittings can cause problems due to variations in material and residual contaminants that affect product quality.
Paw Kramer, market manager at Alfa Laval, says: “When it comes to tubes and fittings, it’s a false economy to buy cheaper materials. The items themselves are only a small part of the overall price tag. Around 80% of the total installation cost is for welding, weld qualification and validation.”

December 19th 2024The packaging and distribution of clinical supplies is a fundamental piece to the overall success of a clinical trial, and advance preparation can help establish a more efficient supply chain. Selecting the best geographical location for those activities, however, depends on the clinical trial protocol, business decisions, and even the investigational medicinal product (IMP) being studied.
