Equity Firm Buys AAIPharma's Development Business
Water Street Healthcare Partners, a private-equity firm focused on the healthcare industry, acquired AAIPharma's (Wilmington, NC) pharmaceutical development division. Water Street has committed $75 million in equity financing to expand the business's capabilities. The new company is named AAIPharma Services.
The company, which will retain its headquarters in Wilmington, serves more than 300 large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies throughout North America. Its team of 450 scientists and professionals specialize in services that encompass pharmaceutical drug development from discovery through commercialization. Its areas of expertise include analytical chemistry, formulation development, clinical packaging, oral drug delivery, and contract manufacturing.
Chemic Creates Consultant Consortium
Chemic Laboratories (Canton, MA) launched a new website (www.chemiclabs.com) to highlight its recently formed Chemic Consulting Consortium. The company chose members for their individual expertise, and the group is available to answer pharmaceutical and biotech sponsors' questions about pharmaceutical development. The consortium's goal is to guide clients through the challenges of product development and agency registration.

Spectrum Offers Fetal Bovine Serum
Spectrum Chemicals and Laboratory Products (Gardena, CA) launched a new line of premium-quality fetal bovine serum (FBS) products for various cell-culture applications. In partnership with an established biotechnology supplier, Spectrum offers FBS originating from abattoirs in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Australia. Each FBS order includes a full biochemical and chemical profile, as well as certification of the country of origin. All of Spectrum's new serum products comply with current good manufacturing practice standards and with the regulations of the US Food and Drug Administration.
