PCI Pharma Services, a pharmaceutical outsourcing services provider, will acquire Millmount Healthcare, a pharmaceutical and healthcare contract packaging services provider, to expand its European services.

On Oct. 2, 2017, PCI Pharma Services (PCI), an outsourcing services provider, announced the acquisition of Millmount Healthcare, a pharmaceutical and healthcare contract packaging services provider. Millmount provides services in blister packaging, bottling, and tub filling, as well as in late-stage customization and cold chain packaging services. The acquisition supports PCI’s efforts to expand its clinical trial service offerings.

The addition of Millmount, based near Dublin, Ireland, will be PCI’s fourth acquisition outside of the United States in four years, and makes 18 facilities under PCI across North America and Europe. Millmount is licensed to support clinical trial treatments and is expected to immediately initiate site training and facility upgrades to support storage, distribution, and qualified-person release of clinical trial supplies.

Additionally, Millmount has invested in expanding its potent compound packaging capability, recently opening a high-potent, high-containment packaging facility in July 2017. PCI anticipates that the Millmount facilities will become an important focus for its clinical trial services business.

“We are very excited to welcome the Millmount team to PCI,” said Bill Mitchell, PCI president and CEO, in a company press release. “We continue to see strong demand from our customers for medicines targeted for international growth markets both in commercial medicines as well as investigational medicines for clinical trials.”

PCI has recently announced site capacity expansions, as well as site investments in cold chain infrastructure.  PCI announced cold chain and ultra-cold chain expansions at its Philadelphia and Rockford locations in support of temperature controlled packaging, storage and distribution. PCI also expanded its Tredegar and Bridgend facilities in the United Kingdom. Also, PCI has invested in additional commercial packaging lines and in global capacity for serialization and anti-counterfeiting technologies.
