Descon Conveyor Systems is joining Pacteon’s portfolio, and its product will be shown alongside those from Schneider Packaging Equipment and Phoenix Stretch Wrappers.
Brewerton, NY-based Pacteon Group announced in a press release on Sept. 9, 2024 that in advance of Pack Expo 2024, a trade show focusing on the packaging and processing industry that will take place from Nov. 3–6, 2024 in Chicago, the company had added Descon Conveyor Systems to its portfolio and would be displaying a Descon product at one of its Pack Expo booths (1–2).
Called the Single-Lane Empty Can Vacuum Transfer with Laser Coding and Code Inspection, this solution is designed to deliver reliable and high-quality laser coding of empty cans prior to rinsing in a dry location of the production facility (1). The empty cans are held by their tops, allowing access to the laser coding components on the bottom, and by traveling in one lane, offering customers an opportunity for empty can quality inspection immediately following vacuum transfer.
“The solution offers superior quality assurance and prevents line stoppages by automatically removing defective empty cans with improper date code, dented or damaged flanges from the line prior to filling,” Jeff Philpott, Descon VP of operations, said in the Pacteon press release.
Booth S-3300, where Pacteon will be exhibiting the new Descon product, is located in the “Inventor’s Corner” at Pack Expo, and Descon software will also be shown in action there to give attendees a sense of Pacteon’s capability to enhance packaging technology and operations (1). Additionally on display at this booth will be the Collaborative Case Erector-Palletizer from Schneider Packaging Equipment, another entity in Pacteon’s portfolio. The 3D-printed, lightweight, end-of-arm tool used in this solution allows for fast and tool-less changeover—one operator in under five minutes—with the end results of more productive labor tasks and reduction of repetitive motion injuries, according to the press release (1).
“Our adaptable new system consolidates case erecting, taping, and palletizing for a broad range of case sizes and weights,” Jamie Barber, director of R&D for Schneider Packaging, said in the press release. “Zero-programming setup is quick and easy by just entering the case sizes.”
The booth in the Inventor’s Corner will also display Schneider’s fully automated Robotic Case Packer and High Speed Palletizing Tool. Phoenix Stretch Wrappers, yet another of Pacteon’s partners, will have a variety of stretch wrapping options on display, including high-speed and semi-automatic models (1).
At another booth, W-16041 in the Healthcare Packaging Pavilion, Pacteon plans to showcase ESS Technologies’ Model V30 Robotic Case Packer, intended to accommodate serialization track-and-trace systems (1). Another Phoenix model stretch wrapper will also be displayed at this booth.
Pacteon said that, at both of these booths for the duration of their exhibits, company engineers would be on hand to answer questions about integration for new and existing packaging lines, sharing their expertise on precision collating and packing across pharmaceutical as well as other sectors.
