The VIA Capsule from Cytiva is a liquid nitrogen-free cryogenic shipment system designed to transport cell therapies.
The VIA Capsule from Cytiva is a liquid nitrogen-free cryogenic shipment system for the shipment of cellular therapies and cryopreserved apheresis to ensure cell viability during the logistics process from the manufacturer to patient.
The system features a Stirling cryocooler, which cools the shipper unit prior to transportation and provides temporary cryogenic storage when connected to a power source. The internal thermal core provides five days of passive standby when disconnected from a power source; an LCD interface shows the temperature of the shipment and time remaining at cryogenic temperature, Cytiva reports.
A smart monitor uploads temperature, condition, and location information to a dashboard in the Chronicle software platform. The system is equipped with wheels for transport in a hospital setting.
In the event of transportation delays, VIA Capsule shippers can be held on-charge at a Cytiva-certified VIA Capsule Charge Station through World Courier until transportation can resume.
Demonstration units will be available in August 2020 for customers in Europe and the United States for validation testing, the company reports.
Cytiva is formerly part of GE Healthcare Life Sciences
