BioTek Adds “OnDemand” Mode to BioSpa Software

Article

BioTek Instruments has released a second edition of its BioSpa software that now offers users a simplified but effective interface for kinetic imaging or detection workflows.

On Dec. 18, 2017, BioTek Instruments, a company that designs, manufactures, and distributes life-science instrumentation, announced the release of a second edition of its BioSpa software, which controls all aspects of the BioSpa 8 Automated Incubator and now includes an OnDemand mode.

The new BioSpa software is designed to provide maximum functionality for multiple users on the system, especially for imaging- or detection-only workflows. The new software offers two modes that are each optimized for particular workflows: session mode, which is for imaging, detection, and liquid handling operations with multiple steps; and the new OnDemand mode, which offers a simplified interface for kinetic imaging or detection workflows.  The OnDemand mode allows users to add or remove labware at any time, without interrupting operations that are already in process. In addition, multiple users can be defined in the system, and each user can visually track their own experiment’s progress on the dynamic timeline. Notifications can be emailed or texted, alleviating the need for constant monitoring.

The BioSpa 8 Automated Incubator links BioTek readers or images together with washers and dispensers for full workflow-automation of up to eight microplates. It offers real-time control and continuous monitoring of temperature, carbon dioxide/oxygen, and humidity levels along with lid-handling and convenient run notifications. The incubator also ensures walkway confidence while maintaining an ideal environment for cell cultures during all experimental stages.  The incubator automates assay workflows by repeated manipulation and storage of microplates containing live cells or temperature-sensitive reagents.
