ACHEMA Presents BioBasedWorld, Process Analytical Technology, and Industrial Water Management

Article

While biotech will revolutionize our industry through new products and new reaction pathways, process analytics is the link between process automation and the laboratory sector, and water plays a key role as a valuable resource all over the world.

Biotechnology and environmental protection are the hallmarks of ACHEMA given their paramount importance to the process industry. It is, therefore, no surprise that exhibitors at the show often give high profile to these two topics, presenting technology portfolios targeting the conservation and efficient use of resources as well as emission control. Innovative solutions are needed to address the current challenges such as the energy turnaround. ACHEMA promises to deliver exciting concepts for tackling these issues while at the same time, providing a trigger point for synergies among suppliers.

Focal themes

ACHEMA 2015 will also feature three focal themes-biobased production, process analytical technology (PAT), and industrial water management-all of which are relevant to all areas of the process industry. “While biotech will revolutionize our industry through new products and new reaction pathways, process analytics is the link between process automation and the laboratory sector, and water plays a key role as a valuable resource all over the world,” said Thomas Scheuring, CEO of DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH, one of the show organizers.

Sustainability is fast becoming a global trend. BiobasedWorld, which was established at ACHEMA 2012 and forms an integral part of the show, is focused on renewable resources. The vision is to make bioeconomy visible and tangible.

PAT goes far beyond real-time measurement. As the key enabler of quality by design, PAT provides input for process optimization and automation. Through the combination of process design, analytics, and control, PAT allows continuous monitoring of critical process parameters and the adjustment of critical quality attributes of intermediates and end products. It takes the concerted efforts of many disciplines and players to maximize the potential of PAT, from laboratory and analytical techniques, to instrumentation and control, through to process developers and component suppliers.

Water is an indispensable component for the process industry. Not only does efficient industrial water management cut cost, but it also conserves resources. Zero liquid discharge, which is the elimination of effluent from production, has emerged as the subject of a highly controversial debate; this topic will be discussed in a presentation during the congress.

Plenary lectures and panel discussions

ACHEMA’s congress program covers topics from all exhibition groups, from biotechnology to chemical engineering and environmental protection. Plenary lectures and panel discussions address the entire spectrum of the process industry including pharmaceutical production, PAT, single-use technology, nanotechnology, and modular plant conception, to name a few.

The congress planner makes it easy to select events of interest. Those who will be attending can search by lecture topic, author, or keyword in the abstracts of all the lectures submitted.

Industry trends and applications

Featuring market- and practice-oriented presentations that are held within the vicinity of the exhibition groups concerned, the ACHEMA PRAXISforums offer manufacturers, suppliers, and users the opportunity to find out about the latest trends, technologies, and innovations and to communicate directly with experts who deal with similar issues both across all industries and along the value chain.

Presentations will focus on topics such as PAT, pharmaceutical production, single-use technologies, mixing and separation, plant control, plant components, and laboratory techniques.

All ACHEMA visitors with a valid day or season ticket can participate free of charge.
