Pharmaceutical Technology's In the Lab eNewsletter
A new scientific publication examines analytical processes for the emerging legal cannabis industry.
As FDA weighs initial approvals of cannabinoid-based treatments, a growing number of states have legalized marijuana for medicinal and recreational use. Compared with the regulated pharmaceutical environment, the legal cannabis industry is subject to varying state regulations; analytical and quality control guidelines are often lacking.
To fill this gap, a new professional journal and website, Cannabis Science and Technology, was launched in March 2018, in alliance with the Cannabis Science Conference, to educate the legal cannabis industry about the science and technology of analytical testing and quality control.
The publication-a sister publication to Pharmaceutical Technology-will focus on sample preparation techniques for analytical testing; development of analytical methods for potency testing; identification of contaminants such as pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, and mycotoxins; quality control for cannabis, extraction, and processing; laboratory best practices and certification; testing standardization; and regulations related to quality control.
The first issue features articles on quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, analytical tools to analyze edibles, metals analysis, and extraction processes. The first issue and subscription information are available on the publication’s website.
Inquiries about editorial submissions can be sent to Meg L’Heureux, Editor-in-Chief.
