Two of the largest companies in the pharma industry are to join forces to supply and distribute 96-well Multi-SPE Extraction Plates. The instruments, which are to be circulated by Millipore, are manufactured by 3M for the purpose of isolating and concentrating low levels of analytes, and function by removing substances that interfere with mass spectrometry signal detection. The devices feature 3M Empore membranes, which produce clean extracts, extend LC-MS/MS column life and decrease instrument downtime.

Simplified Access to Product Development

French company Groupe Novasep is to combine its process network with Rohm and Haas' advanced biosciences division. The strategic move, which gives Groupe Novasep direct access to customized separation media, and Rohm and Haas entry into advanced process development, including modelling and pilot-scale capabilities, should simplify access to a wide range of solutions by providing a single interface, as well as paving the way for the development of new products.

Spooner Vicars Enters Pharma Arena

Owners of Spooner Vicars, a UK-based food equipment manufacturer, are planning to expand into the pharmaceutical packaging and processing market following its purchase by Avalanche Holdings. The deal, which took more than 2 years to complete, is hoped to grow Avalanche into a £200 million group within the next 3–5 years. Spooner Vicars' production lines are reported to enable manufacturers to innovate in the development of their product ranges, as well as minimize waste.

"We're innovators and it will be innovation, together with our highly-skilled workforce, that will drive the company forward," said Bruce Stimpson, joint owner of Avalanche Holdings. "We see a lot of opportunity to approach our market differently and we're very focussed as a team on new ways to push the business forward," he added.
