Pharmaceutical Technology's In the Lab eNewsletter
The company has broken ground on the construction of a new laboratory space.
Avid Bioservices, a contract development and manufacturing organization, has achieved a milestone in its ongoing expansion of its process development capabilities and laboratories, the company announced on Oct 9, 2018.
In early October 2018, the company began demolition at the site that will provide approximately an additional 3,000 ft2 of new process development laboratory space. The new space will allow for the consolidation of cell line development, upstream process development, and upstream pilot-scale production in a single location. The facility will enhance the company’s ability to deliver compliant and economically viable biologics manufacturing processes and execute technology transfer of existing processes.
The new facility will feature bioreactor development and control systems designed specifically to enable Avid to streamline projects into cGMP manufacturing and will allow for a high level of automation and reporting capabilities. It will also be compatible with evolving process control strategies, such as online metabolite and cell density sensors, process analytical technology, and bioreactor sampling devices.
The company also reported that it plans to triple the current capacity provided by its benchtop bioreactor systems. The expansion also requires the active hiring of additional process development scientists, the company said.
