Pylote’s Pyclear Protection Recognized for Best Packaging at the CPhI Pharma Awards

Article

Pyclear Protection replaces the use of antimicrobial preservatives in multi-dose products without any change to the primary packaging and has no impact on the manufacturing process.

Pylote’s Pyclear Protection was crowned the winner of the Excellence in Packaging category at the 2016 CPhI Pharma Awards. Pylote is a new player in the green mineral chemical sector. Its Pyclear Protection was developed to replace antimicrobial preservatives used in multi-dose pharmaceutical products, and it fully complies with FDA regulations and the European Pharmacopoeia. Patients are protected from the risk of contamination as well as the local side effects arising from the presence of preservatives in the drug product.

Pyclear Protection is based on unique, unagglomerated ceramic microspheres manufactured by a green and “clean-tech” chemistry proprietary process. The green mineral microspheres are added by a classical compounding process in the specific plastics grade referenced by “Pylote Agreed” packaging suppliers. The antibacterial action is achieved by reaction at the microsphere’s surface causing cell membrane disorganization without the microspheres being consumed.

Pyclear Protection provides an alternative to substitute the use of preservatives in pharmaceuticals products without any change to the primary packaging. The manufacturing process is also not affected. It is suited for multi-dose eyedrop flasks, catheters, and nasal-used preparations, and provides patients with efficient protection when receiving treatment. For example, Pyclear Protection ensures that the eyedrop solution is protected against microbiological contamination during the treatment period, giving patients a clean dose of their medication on each application. Pyclear Protection requires no change in patient treatment methods.

Pyclear Protection also won the Pharmapack Award 2016 in the Best Exhibitor Innovation category, for patient protection and cost-efficiency.
