The company will install new vial-filling and lyophilization capacity, including an isolator-based filling machine. The new filling equipment will result in a five-fold increase in the company's current filling capacity.

Piramal Pharma Solutions is planning a $25-million expansion of its sterile drug manufacturing facility in Lexington, Kentucky, the company reported on August 2, 2016.  Piramal will increase vial filling and lyophilization capacity at the facility, and upgrade relevant facilities and utilities.  In the first phase of the expansion, the company will add a new manufacturing suite, including a high-speed vial-filling machine designed for the safe handling of highly potent materials, as well as automated vial washing and sterilization capabilities.

Piramal also plans to install a new isolator-based vial filler in its existing manufacturing suite. The two filling units will increase the company's vial filling capacity by more than five-fold.  The second phase of the expansion will include installation of two lyophilizers, which will be integrated with the new filler line, offering dedicated capacity for both potent and non-potent products, the company reported.
