The company unveiled three new products to support single-use biomanufacturing and won an award for best technological innovation at INTERPHEX 2018.
On April 17, 2018, MilliporeSigma, a Merck KGaA company, unveiled three new products designed to make single-use bioprocessing easier, safer, and more efficient. The company introduced the new single-use technology-based products at INTERPHEX 2018 held in New York City, where the company also won an award for best technological innovation. The new products launched are:
“The biopharmaceutical industry needs flexible manufacturing solutions that reduce long drug development timelines and accommodate shifts in demand, while protecting employees and the environment,” said Andrew Bulpin, head of Process Solutions at MilliporeSigma, in a company press release. “MilliporeSigma’s new bioprocessing innovations demonstrate our commitment to developing superior single-use technologies that will drive implementation of flexible manufacturing technologies around the world.”
The Pellicon capsule with Ultracel membrane can be used for bioprocessing of antibody-drug conjugates and monoclonal antibodies. The capsule combines fast, user-friendly, and efficient processing of biologics and offers linear scalability. It also reduces risk of product cross-contamination as well as exposure to highly toxic compounds during processing and disassembly, the company reports.
The Millipak final fill filter was designed with an angled, aseptic multi-purpose port for sampling, venting, and integrity testing through the same port while protecting against microbial contamination and ensuring drug product sterility. The stacked disc design maximizes product yield, and the transparent housing shows fluid flow during the final filtration step.
The new Mobius Power MIX 2500L and 3000L single-use mixers handle difficult-to-mix buffers, cell culture media powders, and other pharmaceutical ingredients. Both large-scale systems incorporate NovAseptic technology, which is traditionally used in stainless steel mixers. The NovAseptic technology saves time and enables more efficient single-use mixing. The new mixers extend the company’s product line, which now includes single-use mixers ranging from 100 L to 3000 L.
MilliporeSigma also announced on April 18, 2018 that its Millistak+ HC Pro portfolio won an INTERPHEX exhibitor award for best technological innovation.
“MilliporeSigma is dedicated to delivering innovations that bring advanced drug therapies to market, faster,” said Andrew Bulpin, head of Process Solutions at MilliporeSigma, in a company press release. “As the first fully synthetic depth filters, MilliporeSigma’s Millistak+ HC Pro portfolio provides as much as twice the filtration capacity as commercial diatomaceous earth (DE)-based benchmarks and offers customers greater productivity and speed with reduced risk. We are honored to be recognized for this advancement in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.”
The company’s Millistak+ HC Pro portfolio is a family of synthetic depth filters providing clean, consistent depth filtration media. The filters are made entirely with synthetic materials, which eliminates naturally derived components from the clarification process. This results in increased productivity with less flushing, the company reports.
