Changsung's Gel Reclaim System (GRS) recovers gelatin scrap from a soft gel line.
Changsung's Gel Reclaim System (GRS) recovers gelatin scrap from a softgel line and is able to turn it into a 99.9% pure gelatin solution equivalent to virgin gelatin. At the end of the process, the recovered gelatin can be fed back into the manufacturing line. A GRS line was recently installed a line in Madrid, Spain, the company announced in a Feb. 2, 2015 press release.
The GRS does not use any solvent. After melting the gels, a microfiltration unit isolates suspended solids, and an ultrafiltration system further purifies the gelatin. An ion exchange resin decolors the gelatin and a final ultrafiltration step reconcentrates the solution. The system is available in 500, 2000, and 4000 kg gelatin/day.
