Bend Research installs its first commercial-scale spray dryer at its Oregon facility.
Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions (DFS), has installed its first commercial-scale spray dryer at its R&D facility in Bend, OR. The new, high-capacity pharmaceutical spray dryer can be used for scale-up, quality-by-design (QbD), and the production of appropriate toxicology study supplies.
According to the company, this can provide for quicker development activities, as well as reduced cost and more flexible use of APIs. It also allows scale-up aspects of QbD to be integrated earlier into development for spray-dried products.
The installation is part of the company's multi-stage, $20 million expansion to enhance commercial manufacturing capabilities for spray-dried dispersions at its facilities in Oregon. The expansion is expected to be complete by mid-2015.
