Aptar Stelmi Presents Alternative Coated Stopper for Sensitive Drugs

Article

Aptar Stelmi will present PremiumCoat, an alternative coated stopper for sensitive drugs, at CPhI 2016.

Aptar Stelmi, a member of the AptarGroup, will present PremiumCoat, an alternative coated stopper for sensitive drugs, at CPhI 2016. Aptar Stelmi designs and manufactures elastomeric closures: stoppers for vials, and prefilled syringe and cartridge components such as plungers, needle shields, and tip caps for all parenteral applications.

PremiumCoat is a novel range of elastomeric stoppers, which Aptar Stelmi launched in 2015. Based on an approved, state-of-the-art formulation, the surface of the elastomer is coated during manufacturing with an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) film. This coating acts as an effective barrier to many of the extractables and leachables that can be released from the elastomer. According to Aptar Stelmi, its PremiumCoat stoppers are compatible with sensitive drugs.

The first design released in 2015 was a 20-mm coated stopper. Aptar Stelmi is widening its PremiumCoat range by introducing a 13-mm coated stopper, which will soon extend to other products.

Joel Cotten, business development director at Aptar Pharma, will give a presentation on “PremiumCoat-The alternative coated stopper for sensitive drugs” during the Innopack Showcase, at 10 am, on Oct. 5, 2016.

Aptar Pharma, also part of the AptarGroup family, is presenting its eDose Counter for metered dose inhalers (MDIs). The eDose Counter for MDIs is designed to be easy-to-use and reliable, and contributes to patient compliance. The unique sensing technology offers direct detection of the spray, which eliminates the risks of miscounting. The sensing technology is compatible with any metering valve design. In addition, the eDose Counter for MDIs includes inhaler priming and medication reminders-to-use and end-of-product-life warnings (flashing digits) while remaining cost-effective.
