The acquisition is expected to strengthen SGS’s agriculture, food, and life business in the United States.

SGS, a Geneva, Switzerland-based analytical contract service provider, announced on May 3, 2019 that it acquired Chemical Solutions (CSL), a Harrisburg, PA-based testing laboratory specializing in elemental and heavy metal testing for pharmaceutical, nutraceuticals, food, and cosmetic products.

CSL provides services to many leading companies in these industries across the United States and internationally. According to SGS, CSL is cGMP registered by FDA, in addition to being International Organization for Standardization (IOS) 17025 accredited. CSL employs approximately 40 employees and made approximately $5.3 million in 2018 revenue.

“This acquisition strengthens our [a]griculture, [f]ood, and [l]ife business in the US, further expanding our scope and geographical presence,” said Frankie Ng, CEO of SGS, in a company press release.

In January 2019, SGS announced a £7.6-million (US$10-million) investment to expand capabilities and capacity for testing cell banks and routine bulk harvest for vaccines, gene and cell therapies, monoclonal antibodies, and other recombinant protein-based biological medicines at the company’s facility in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
