Dow Launches ETHOCEL HP

ETHOCEL HP is a solvent free advanced productivity technology for barrier membrane coating.
Dow Pharma & Food Solutions, a division of Dow Chemical Company, announced the global launch and commercial availability of ETHOCEL High Productivity (HP), a ethylcellulose polymer for multiparticulate and taste-masking applications, designed specifically for use with rotor coater systems. The product is commercially available exclusively through Colorcon Inc, as part of the Dow and Colorcon Controlled Release Alliance, Dow said in a June 21, 2016 press announcement.
Dry coating with ETHOCEL HP offers shorting coating times for barrier membranes, at higher efficiencies, and without the need for solvents. ETHOCEL HP has shown a step improvement in coating time, 70% faster than traditional solvent and aqueous spray coating systems, according to trials conducted by Dow. Removing the solvent from the coating process allows opportunities for cost reduction and improved operation safety, the company noted.
